Easy Way To Change WordPress Admin Username (Self-hosted)
Easy Way To Change WordPress Admin Username (Self-hosted) | Please change your WordPress username from ‘admin’ if you haven’t already.
Just put your name, nickname or your email address if you like, but definitely not admin.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Using Admin as a WordPress username makes it much easier for hackers to log into your website and replace your pages with unhelpful information.
If you use admin as username, you might get about 30 bad login attempts a day. I’m sure most webmasters get at least this.
This information should be viewable under the security plugin section of your WordPress menu.
The Wordfence plugin alerts you as to when people try to access your website and you can also set it to lock those hackers out after say, 5 bad attempts. So if you haven’t already, install it now.
So it’s not just a safe password you need using capitals letters mixed with numbers and symbols. Unguessable username is also good to have.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Ok, back to the topic.
I before this, do the tradisional way to avoid the risk of sloppy attempts using over admin username is by:
- Create new user as admin then;
- Delete admin user;
- Now, of course every my setup will use another username.
If I forgot and the installation was done, I will change the username admin without creating new user and delete.
I use this plugin (username changer) so I don’t have to directly edit the database.
1. Install plugin (username changer) and activate.
2. Open the profile and change the username.
3. Deactivate and delete plugin.
That’s all. Easy huh?
